John Francis Cordaro, Sr., age 79 passed away after a brief illness on November 6, 2020 in Tomball, TX. A celebration of life will be on Friday, November 13 in Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Osborn Funeral Home on Southern Ave. followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

He was born on August 10, 1941 in Shreveport, LA to Frank and Mary Cordaro.

A gifted hitter and solid infielder, he was a proud member of the 1957 State runner-up baseball team with St. John’s High School. John was recognized as one of the first All-State baseball players for St. John’s his senior year in 1959. From there John took his baseball skills to Ruston, LA and played for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs from 1960-1964. A proud alumnus of Louisiana Tech, he was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order.

After graduation, John joined Shell Oil Company in New Orleans. He loved the city of New Orleans and lived there for 20 years. He enjoyed many things in New Orleans such as the Fairgrounds, watching the New Orleans Saints play at Tulane Stadium, the French Quarter, and of course finding his bride of 51 years, June Majure. John and June met while working at Shell and married in 1969.

Shell moved John and his family to the Houston area (Spring, TX). For 35 years, John was a tireless worker for Shell Oil Co. After his retirement he took care of his mother and most recently his wife. John was always known for his easy going way and polite nature. It was rare that grocery store clerks and other places around town would not know his name or friendly face. He made stops all over town, especially in his retirement as he ran errands everywhere. One of his most cherished moments was seeing his grandchildren. He enjoyed picking them up from school and watching them play basketball and baseball.

A devout Catholic, John would never miss a weekend without attending Mass. Even during the recent pandemic, he enjoyed watching Mass on TV with June and reading the Bible together.

He is survived by his wife, June, son, John F. Cordaro, Jr. and wife Laura Cordaro, daughter, Karen Leech and five grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be John B. Cordaro, Dominic Cordaro, and John W. Thomas.

Thank you to the many kind sentiments expressed by friends, family and loved ones since his passing.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or any local animal rescue agency is encouraged.
