Mr. John Adams Rushing, age 91, of Monroe, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence on December 1, 2020.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 1:00 PM Friday, December 4, 2020, at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 6223 Love Mill Road, Monroe, NC, 28110, officiated by Pastor Joey Query.

For those who would like to pay their respects prior to the service, Mr. Rushing will lie in state in the church cemetery beginning at noon, prior to the ceremony.

John was born May 22, 1929, in Union County, NC, a son of the late John Worley Rushing and Carrie Odell Rushing Rushing.

John served our country through his service to the United States Army during the Korean War. After his time in the military he continued serving the community as a barber for 55 years. John was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church, and especially loved playing softball with his church group. He appreciated the simple beauty of God’s creation and enjoyed gardening with Bobbie, his wife of 69 years. Whether at work or play, John valued fellowship with others, and bringing a smile to everyone’s face.

John is survived by his wife, Bobbie Lee Tarlton Rushing, his daughter, Jeannie Rushing Hinson (Kim), his son, John Christopher Rushing (Brenna), his sisters; Clara Troutman (Lonnie) and Delane Mullis (Donald), his grandchildren; John Rushing, Esther Smith (Terry), Kylend Mullis, Jason Little, and his great-grandchildren; Carter, Cameron, and Cayleigh Oglesby.

In addition to his parents, John was proceeded in death by his brother, Jesse Rushing, his sisters; Ruby Kiker, Dorothy Stroupe, Annie Mae Stroupe, and grandson John Adrian Mullis.

Although flowers are appreciated, the Rushing family requests that memorials in John’s honor be made to Hospice of Union County. The family would like to extend a special thank you to hospice staff for their compassionate care.
