Richard Downs Wright, 82, passed away on Thursday Nov. 26, 2020. Richard was born on March 16, 1937, in Kokomo, Ind. [father W.D. 'Dewey' Wright; mother Frances (nee Webb) .

Richard was a proud Hoosier and Bobby Knight fan, having graduated from Indiana University.
In 1961, Richard received an offer to join the Department of Sociology from Northern Michigan University (NMU) where he spent his career as a professor, later becoming head of the Department of Sociology and Social Work.

It was not long after starting there Rich met the love of his life at NMU, Dolores, who became his wife in April of 1965.

In 1971, Richard and Dolores adopted a young baby girl who they would name Victoria Marie Wright of Trinity, Fla.

Among being a proud father and grandfather, Richard enjoyed watching Hoosier basketball, was a devoted Detroit Lions fan, hunting, also, spending time in Daggett, Mich. Rich especially loved the holiday season and spending time with family playing music, also the occasional game of trivia where he always won. Richard spent many happy years with the family springer spaniels and loved his wife, Dolores, very much.

Richard was thought of as a superhero by his daughter, Victoria “Vicki” Wright;
and grandchildren: Ashleigh Marie Dauphinais of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Brett Russell Joseph Dauphinais of Daggett;
his brother, Larry Wright of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.;
and his nephews;
and many loved students and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a beloved aunt Mary (Russell) Arthur and uncle David Webb; and his loving wife, Dolores Wright.

Due to the current pandemic, no services will be held at this time. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery.
