Wife of John Harry Lawing, Jr.

Catherine Anne Grisdale Lawing passed away on Sat. Nov. 28, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Gilbert Brown Grisdale and Teresa Monahan Grisdale.

Anne was preceded in death by 8 days her husband of 51 years, Harry Lawing. They were both native Charlotteans and lived most of their lives in the Dilworth area.

Anne was also preceded in death by her sister Jean Grisdale and brothers Jim and Buddy Grisdale.

Surviving Anne are her sister Terri Edwards and Jeff Culler, sisters in law Ginny and Doneata Grisdale, beloved nephew, Brian Edwards and nieces Janet Grisdale Applegate (Mike), Julie Grisdale Moore (Tracy), Jeana Grisdale Sheehan (Ed) Jennifer Edwards Davis (Josh) and their children. Special cousins Mary Lura Langley (Max), Kitty Venti and Mardi McMakin. Anne so enjoyed our cousins lunches we had monthly for years.

Anne attended ODonoghue School and Charlotte Catholic High School.
To know Anne was to love her. She always thought to remember everyone on any special occasion. She knew everyone’s birthday and anniversary. It wasn’t your birthday unless you got a card from Anne.

Anne and Harry met in school. They had a full life. They loved to travel and would go on tours where they met lifelong friends.

She never complained although her life was not always easy. People say this often but it is absolutely true of Anne. She had great spunk and loved a good time.

In the last six weeks of their lives Anne and Harry shared a room in a long term care facility. With only 8 days separating their passing, their lives seem destined to be shared eternally. May they Rest In Peace, side by side.

The family has decided to honor the lives of both Anne and Harry with a memorial service in the Spring. No one loved a good funeral more than Anne.

For memorials, if you are inclined, please honor a health care worker in the names of Anne and Harry Lawing. They were treated wonderfully by the staff at their long term care facility and these workers are truly amazing and selfless.
