SOUTH AMHERST -- Glen Winson, age 79, life resident of South Amherst, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph after a long illness. Glen was born in Amherst, August 24, 1930 to the late Alfred and Elsie (nee Bahl) Winson. Glen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and was a mess hall cook for the enlisted men. With the skills he obtained in the Army, Glen retained a lifelong interest in cooking. He was a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 47, Lorain. He also enjoyed woodworking. Glen was a crane operator by trade. In his younger years he worked at the Cleveland Quarries in South Amherst, and then moved on to the Thew Shovel Company, Lorain, and lastly at United States Steel Corp., Lorain. He retired in 1992. Survivors include a brother Robert Winson Sr., of Sandusky; nieces; Kathy Reaser, Joyce Winson, and Gail Gauman; nephews; Wayne and Dale Gauman; a great niece Brittney Kitts; and great nephews Todd Gauman and Robert Doman. He was preceded in death by a sister Virginia Gauman and a nephew Robert Winson Jr. Friends will be received at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Monday, November 30, 2009 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Paul Eaton, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ, South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst. Military rites will be conducted by Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
