She was blind from age nine, and was educated in the Wyandotte School for the Blind, KS. She played the piano and gave music lessons. She married William Henry Downs, and they raised two sons, Oscar and Lionel, and three daughters, Olive, Blanche, and Wilma. She had twenty-two grandchildren. Great grandma Lizzie rest in peace.
