Joel VV. Smith, 77, cf West Frankfort, formerly of Clinton, ded at 6:30 p.m. Monday. His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Pullen-Boos Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Weldon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. He was born Aug. 14, 1897, in Kentucky, a son of Francis and Savannah Smith. He married Lucy Monkman, who died in 1951. He married Mary E. Botwright June 27, 1953.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Adams, West Frankfort, and one brother, Granville Smith, Decatur. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. He was employed by Montgomery Wards when he lived in Clinton.
