James O. Bartley, 70 years of age, of Bristol, Va., formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the home of his granddaughter, surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Buchanan County, May 23, 1939, he was the son of the late Stanford Bartley and Ora Mae Stiltner Bartley. He was of the Holiness faith, retired coal miner having last worked for Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He was a avid outdoorsman and loved to travel. He was a loving father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Eunice Dawson Bartley, February 19, 2009; five sisters, Barbara Ann Bartley, Sue Darnell, Audrey Bartley, Linda Gail Bartley, Brenda Gail Bartley; three brothers, Ellis Bartley, Aubry Bartley and Willlard Bartley. He is survived by two daughters, Susie Dawson Lockard and husband, Charles of Abingdon, Va., Melissa Ann (Bartley) Cabbell of Martinsville, Ind.; son, Robbie Stacy and wife, Karla Lyn of Honaker, Va.; brother, Junior Bartley of Keen Mountain, Va. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mrs. Paul (Cassandra) Bruner, Benjamin Stacy, Thomas Cabbell, Amber Cabbell, James Lockard, Timmothy Lockard, Christopher Lockard; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services for James O. Bartley will be conducted Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Eddie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Park, Richlands, Va. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Bruner and Southwest Virginia Hospice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 6:00 p.m. Friday where a evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
