John is survived by his spouse of 22 years, Shirley Overfield, his children of Morgantown WV, Jay Merrill (Janet), Eric Merrill, Mike Merrill (Marcie), Tamyra Merrill and Nikki Spradley (Dale), and stepchildren of Pfafftown, NC, Kimberly Autrey (Randy) and Greg Overfield, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John was born in Morgantown, WV to Lloyd Merrill and Mildred Wade Merrill. John had the privilege of having a loving uncle and aunt, Bob Wade and Frankie Wade, who helped raise and shape him into the man he became. He graduated from Morgantown High School in 1955 and had a long career as a Garment Cutter at Morgan Shirt Factory and later at Sycamore Lanes and attended Sabraton Baptist Church.
In retirement he enjoyed traveling, country music shows and dancing with Shirley, often called the “dancing couple”. John loved spending time camping and in later years had a place at Big Bear Lake Camplands where he was known and loved by many.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mildred Merrill, his uncle Bob Wade and his granddaughter Amber Dawn Merrill.
