Eli D. Bozorth was the son of Jeremiah Bozorth and 2/w Sarah Grieves. He was born December 2, 1830 in Grayson County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Bozorth and Mary Hargis of Grayson County. Jonathan served as a private in the 8th Pennsylvania Continental Line during the Revolutionary War and as a Captain in the Hardin County Militia in Kentucky. Eli's maternal grandfather was John Grieves (Greves) of Ohio and Grayson Counties, Kentucky.

Eli D. Bozorth was 24 years old when he married the almost 17 year old Mary Elizabeth Dewees, on December 21 1854 in Grayson County. They were the parents of the following children born in Grayson County:
