Betty J. Basquin of Wooster, Ohio passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 22, 2020.

She was born in rural Holmes County near Shreve, OH on March 11, 1925 to Mildred and Ford Breneman. She attended a one room school, Chambers School, for grades 1-8 and then went on to graduate as valedictorian from Big Prairie High School where she met her future husband, Jack Basquin. Betty graduated from Bowling Green State University with a BS in education; was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority and was a BGSU cheerleader.

Betty and Jack Basquin were married in 1946 and made the Basquin Farm near Big Prairie their home for 64 years before making their winter home in Naples, Florida their permanent home in 2010. Betty was a home economics teacher at Big Prairie HS until her children were born. She served as a substitute teacher for 25 years in the West Holmes and Triway School Districts.

Once her children were raised, Betty took up the game of golf. She became an avid golfer, once belonging to three leagues at one time. She is credited with a hole-in-one at the Collier's Reserve Course in Naples, Fl. Jack and Betty enjoyed many afternoons golfing together and with friends in Ohio and Naples.

She was a member of the Newkirk and Shreve United Methodist churches where she served as a Sunday school teacher and council member and in later years attended the North Naples Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star.

Several months following Jack's death in 2014, Betty transitioned to her home at Danbury Woods in Wooster, OH. Betty's joy, graciousness, pride in appearance, and determination outlasted the impact that Alzheimers disease had on her brain. She will be remembered as a loving, devoted wife and the best mother imaginable. As a friend, she was endearing to all and her character exemplified kindness, compassion, sincerity, dignity, and integrity. Her sweet, kind, and beautiful spirit was expressed freely with grace and warmth. She was an extraordinary woman who lived a beautiful and full life.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two young children, Roderick Joseph and Ann Elizabeth Basquin, her brother, J. Clyde Breneman, and daughter -in-law, Karen Smith Basquin.

Surviving are four children: Jack L. Basquin (Mary Ann) of Clewiston, FL, Suzan Earney (William) of Naples, FL, David Basquin (Joan) of La Belle, FL, and Scott Basquin (Denise) of ; Lucas and grandchildren: Deborah Pattison, Jon Basquin, Keri Riney, Cynthia Schmitz, Burke Basquin, Brett Basquin, Blake Basquin, Troy Basquin, Chad Basquin, and Kalee Oberlin; along with 20 great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren.
