Alvin was born July 25, 1929 in Goff, KS, to William and Sarah (Jones) Gleason, the third of six children.

Alvin’s dad owned the Whiteway Garage and Alvin worked there from a very young age. In 1960, Alvin became a Chevrolet dealer. In 1968, he moved the garage to Frankfort and changed the name to Whiteway Chevrolet, Inc. Whiteway was definitely a family business. Alvin owned the business with his brother, Steve. Their spouses, Lilah and Nancy, both worked at the garage along with Alvin’s sons, Bryan and Brent.

On June 19, 1949, Alvin married his sweetheart, Lilah Wenger. They had two sons, Bryan and Brent. Alvin was very involved with his children and within the community. He taught Sunday School for preschoolers, was a Boy Scout leader, UMY leader, served as Lions Club President, Rotary Club President, and was a Paul Harris Fellows Recipient.

Alvin loved to be involved in his grandchildren’s activities. He attended countless ballgames, parties, school events, and family get-togethers. In 2009, he was even the Centralia Schools Panther Fan of the Year. Alvin enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and hunting. Bryan and Brent learned to fish, ski, and hunt at an early age. Many great memories were built on those early camping trips to Tuttle Creek and Milford Lake. He shared this love with his sons and grandchildren. He spent a great deal of time teaching his grandkids and taking them hunting and fishing.

Alvin was involved in a variety of activities in the car world. Alvin and Lilah attended many car shows to “show off” their antique cars. He especially enjoyed participating in The White Way car run and he was called “Mr. Whiteway” by his fellow car enthusiasts. He certainly loved his Chevrolets! Family reunions always looked like a Chevrolet car show.

Alvin never knew a stranger and would talk to anyone, help anyone, and would tell his stories to anyone that would listen. He will be missed by many, especially his family who loves him dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Lilah; sons, their children and families:

Bryan (Mary) Gleason; Angie, Lauren and Charlotte, Carrie Eagle (Stony), Ellie Davis (Christian) and Abbie, Michael (April), Brodie, Breylan and Braxton, Audrey, Erika Quilling (Brad).

Brent (Julie) Gleason; Trevor (Amber), Hudson and Jolee, Tanner (Sammy), Tessa, Layla and Luxa, Tyler (Kaylee), Joanie Hosfelt (Jamie), Whit and Scottie.

Brother, Steve (Nancy) Gleason; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Faye Jean Dean and husband, Allen; infant sister, Donna May; brother, Michael and wife, Mary Alice; brother, Bill and wife, Evelyn.

A memorial fund has been established to the Frankfort United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
