Mrs. Rowena Thigpen, 87 year old retired teacher, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 1984 in Collingsworth General Hospital. She was a resident of Thomas Nursing Center. Mrs. Thigpen came to Wellington in 1970 from Jal, New Mexico. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Texas Tech University and also attended Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamm, honorary society for Women in Education, and First Baptist Church. Mrs. Thigpen was born October 21, 1896 in Coleman County, the
daughter of Alanson Hulse and Virginia Green Hulse. She moved with her family to Harmon County, Okla., in 1899, and Brownfield in 1918. She went to Jal, N.M. in 1940. She married Fred A. Thigpen July 29, 1947 in Jal. He died October 7, 1970. Survivors are a number of nieces and nephews, also four grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. The last survivor of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
