Carthage Republican
March 8, 1899
Jesse Wright died Monday evening. His death was due to a stroke of apoplexy, received just one week ago. Mr. Wright was born in Madison county, Kentucky, March 6, 1832. He was married to Miss Francis Elder in 1855. Came to Illinois (Hancock Co.) in the year 1856 where he has since resided. There were born to this union eleven children, of whom nine survive him, which are as follows: Lucinda of Kansas, Nanny of Salem, Ore., Lizzie of Wyaconda, Mo., John of Carthage, Ill., Lee of Bentley, Ill., Wm. of Denver, Ill., Andy of West Point, Ill., and Tiny of Denver. Mr. Wright was an honest, honorable and hard working man, who would rather pay a debt than to gain a fortune, and by so living he accumulated enough to buy a good piece of property in the village of Denver, where he resided at the time of his death. The latter part of his life was spent in this community, and was known and recognized by all as a good citizen. In politics he was a true blue democrat and was in high standing as a member of the Masonic Fraternity. His funeral will be conducted at the late residence Wednesday, at 11 o'clock and will be attended by the Masons of this place, besides a large number of friends and relatives, all of whom sympathize deeply with the bereaved.
