Herbert was born on November 16, 1922 in Secord, Michigan, the second of 11 siblings, to Albert and Martha (Kaweck) Ripke. He married Elizabeth (Pollard) on May 12, 1945 in Midland. Herb Joined the Army in 1939 at 17 and served his country honorably during World War II, serving in the European Theater. When he returned to Midland, he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Pollard. They raised two children, Herbert Jr. and Denise, who survive him. While in Midland he worked as a brick mason on numerous construction projects throughout the Saginaw Valley area. After moving to Maple Valley in 1977, he was instrumental in forming Ripke Construction Company, along with his brother and son.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth, his parents, eight of his brothers and sisters, and his great grandson David Ripke Jr. He is survived by his son Herb Jr. (Diane) Ripke of Houghton Lake, daughter Denise Ripke of St Helen, Grandchildren, David Ripke (Jammie) of Houghton Lake, Krista Heine (Tim) of Houghton Lake, Amanda (Derrick Ehlen) Ripke of Columbus, Oh, as well as seven great grandchildren. His brother Kenneth Ripke of Beaverton, and sister Norma Menzel of Midland also survive him.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday November 18th at the Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel from 2 pm - 8 pm. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 1 pm at the St John Lutheran Church, 2882 W. Houghton Lake Drive with Pastor Paul officiating. Burial will be in the Denton Township Cemetery at a later date.
