DAVID NORTON YERKES (99) Architect, Artist, Designer
David died in his sleep Friday, October 28, 2011 of at INGLESIDE AT ROCK CREEK. Born November 15, 1911 in Cambridge, MA to Robert and Ada Yerkes, he received a BA from HARVARD and a BFA from YALE ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL. His military service was US ARMY/ CORPS OF ENGINEERS and OFFICE OF STRATEGIC SERVICES, 1942-45. As a practicing architect in Washington, DC, he was Principal in the firm of DEIGERT & YERKES, designing private residences and Government buildings. His wife, Catharine Noyes died in 1969. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sarah Hitchcock Yerkes, his daughter, Catharine Yerkes Kulski, his granddaughter, Julia Diaz, two great grandchildren, three step children, nine step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the AMERICAN INSTITUE OF ARCHITECTURE and the METROPOLITAN CLUB. Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 9 at INGLESIDE.
