Earl Edwin Barnhart, 89, of Chanute, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

Earl was born in Thayer, Kansas on May 10, 1921, the son of Paul and Ruth (Bower) Barnhart. He attended Thayer Schools.

Earl was united in marriage to Blanche Dell on January 22, 1944 in Iola, Kansas. They were married for 66 years at the time of his death. Blanche survives of the home.
He was a retired farmer.

Earl was an avid fisherman and coon hunter. He was a sports enthusiast, coaching Little League Baseball and attending most CHS and NCCC sporting events over the years. Earl loved his hometown of Thayer, going to the Horse Pulling matches during Thayer Homecoming week each year. He enjoyed gardening and visiting with people. His greatest love was being a family man, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Westview Baptist Church, and the Elks Lodge #806.

Earl is survived by his wife Blanche of the home; a daughter, Janice Lewis and her husband Kirk of McLouth, KS; a son, Greg Barnhart and his wife Sharon of Chanute; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Goldie Carpenter of Eastern, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, James E. Barnhart and Martin E. Barnhart; a grandson, John Lewis; two sisters, Erma Davidson and Vera Bartlett; and two brothers, Everett Barnhart and Ray Barnhart.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, at the Westview Baptist Church in Chanute.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Memorials in his name may be made to the family and may be left with the funeral home.
