Leona Glines Lambert-Suchet, age 94, passed away peacefully at 6:30pm, in the loving arms of her caretaker and great niece, "Becky", in Kansas City, Missouri on November 14, 2020 following a year long battle with lung and heart issues. Those who loved her called her "Red".

Leona's life began on her family farm, being born on December 26, 1925, located a few miles outside of Warsaw, Missouri. She was the first child to Jennings DeVry Lambert and Sarah Mildred Glines Lambert. She was a big sister to Lethe and LaVera who each were born 2 years consecutively apart.

As a child she grew up following her mother as she tended their big vegetable garden, cleaned their home and prepared meals. She loved fishing with her father and playing with their many farm animals which were her pets and friends; the goats, fowl, cows, dogs, cats and a horse.

She received her primary schooling in a one room school house near Lincoln, Missouri and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943 as the Valedictorian of her class. She attended Business College classes with her sisters while starting a career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Kansas City, Missouri. She soon met her loving husband, George E. Suchet at the YWCA, and they were married on November 11, 1955. George left the Navy soon after their marriage and worked at the KC Post Office his entire life. With both of them working they were able to save up and buy their home in 1964, where Leona used her green thumb and created many beautiful gardens. Sadness struck the family when her middle sister Liburna Lethe Lambert McChesney, married to "Mac" McChesney passed after heart surgery in 1970.

Leona's parents became infirm and instead of putting them in a nursing home she retired from the AT&T phone company to care for them on their farm. She often returned to her KC home on the weekends when her sister LaVera could travel from Texas to stay with them. Two years later, her husband passed away after a brief fight with cancer; Leona by his side. Leona then began staying for longer periods at her parents home caring for their every need, as well as managing the upkeep of their farm. Her nephew James took over the upkeep of her KC home.

Leona's devotion to caring for her parents went above and beyond but eventually she had to place her mom in a nursing home after having several strokes. Her mother passed a short time later in the Clinton Nursing Home in 1995 at the age of 97. Leona continued caring for her father until his death in 1997 on his farm. Leona sold the farm and moved home bringing the beautiful flowers her parents has planted on the farm and re-planted them around her yard. She spent her days gardening, caring for her cats and enjoying friends in her Dinner Theater Group. In 2001 she traveled to Ireland and loved it. In 2014 after her sister LaVera passed, she adopted her Maltese dog Fluffy who passed in 2018. Her nephew, Lethe and Jack's son "Jimmy", continued helping her care for her KC home as she grew older.

She loved visits from her family and enjoyed spending the many holidays with them as the Matriarch of the family while in KC. As she grew older, in her 90s, her niece Donna cared for her and escorted her to her various doctors appointments. Becky, her great niece took over the care, taking duties the last year and a half of her life, but also became a friend as well as her son, Jesse, who loved his great great aunt "Red" very much.

In January of 2020, Leona battled pneumonia constantly as her CHF developed. She was a strong farm woman but eventually lost her battle and passed peacefully after hugging her great niece on last time. A minute later she left with Jesus and resides in Glorious Heaven with her family and pets, and keeping an eye on her remaining family here on earth.

Leona Glines Lambert-Suchet was an amazingly caring, faithful, loving daughter, wife, aunt, great aunt, and great great aunt and has many cousins that cared for her like Tom and Buellah Bishop, Pam Smith and John Burriss.

She also deeply cared for her neighbors Doris and Jim, Kay and Rick and his family. The First Light Companion Company had two caretakers whom Leona loved, Taylor and Margie and appreciated all they did to make her last year comfortable. Leona was a big philanthropist as well, supporting many charities for children, animals, and our military vets.

Surviving and so sadly missing her are nephew James DeVere McChesney, niece Donna Jean McChesney, estranged nephew Wayne Franklin, great niece Rebecca Jean Franklin, great nephew Carl Wayne Franklin and great great nephew Jesse Carl Franklin, who is 8 years old and has autism. Leona named Jesse after her uncle Jesse on her father's side. who was a World War I hero, and passed in his home from complications of mustard gas at the young age of 23. Leona was constantly amazed at Jesse's quick humor and great reading abilities for an autistic child and was the apple of her eye.

She will also be missed by her faithful companion, her dear cat Little Bit.

We will keep Leona in our hearts as she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
