Fred Brewster, 58, for the past four or five months janitor at the Berne Manufacturing plant here, died unexpectedly this morning at the home of Dr. D. D. Jones on North Jefferson street, where he was taken a few minutes earlier by a neighbor after having been stricken ill during the night. Death was attributed to angina pectoris, a heart ailment. The past two months Mr. Brewster had been making his home alone in the former Lehman property, a small house on Fulton street. This morning at 3:20 o'clock when Mr. Brewster could endure his agony no longer, he went to the home of Omer Neuenschwander, a fellow employee and a next door neighbor and called for help. Mr. Neuenschwander quickly called a physician and arranged to bring the ill man to the residence of the doctor. In fifteen or twenty minutes after reaching the Dr. Jones home, Brewster died. Death was attributed to heart trouble. When calling for help at the Neuenschwander home, Brewster thought he was suffering from acute indigestion, saying that he had eaten some cucumbers Sunday evening and that they were causing him agony. He placed his hand on his chest, just below the throat, saying that he was suffering most in that area. It is presumed that what he may have eaten may have agitated his heart condition.
