Our beloved husband, father and papou, Basil Nicholas Floor passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007, at the age of 91. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1916 in the village of Megalo Bontia, Kalavrita, Greece to Nicholas and Alexandra Grammy Flogeras.

His youth was spent as a shepherd in the mountains until he was drafted into the Greek army. He fought for the causes of freedom and democracy for 10 years, spanning the duration of World War II and the Greek Civil War. He was wounded in the hills of Albania in 1941. The Greek Government awarded him the Medal of Honor for his heroic service. Having spent the prime of his youth at war, Basil sought a life of peace and prosperity by immigrating to America in 1951. He was first employed by the D&RG railroad, but soon his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own business as a theater owner and operator for 25 years. Basil truly enjoyed the friendships he made over the years with customers and business associates. Retirement enabled him to further pursue his passions of gardening, fishing, playing cards and chatting with friends at the kafenio.

On September 25, 1955 he married the love of his life, Ange Giannopoulos, in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Salt Lake City. Ange immigrated to America from Manesi, Kalavrita, Greece just a few weeks before their wedding day. Together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage and raising their four children. He loved the outdoors and taking his family for rides in the canyons. Basil always looked forward to celebrating holidays with family and he lit up whenever his four grandchildren were near. He was a fair, honest and compassionate man who thanked God daily for his blessings. In his final months, Basil was blessed to remain at home due to the loving care of his wife.

Basil is survived by his wife, Ange; daughters, Alexandra (John) Klekas and Goldie (Chuck) Karpakis; sons, Nick Floor and Paul (Christy) Floor; grandchildren, Gregory Klekas, Katina Karpakis, Stephen Karpakis, and Nicholas Floor. Also survived by relatives in Greece; sisters, Evangelia Dala and Giannoula Zigoura, sister-in-law, Theoni Flogera; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Despina Flogera and Hariklia Stavrianou; and brother, George Flogeras. The family extends special thanks to Rita and Sylvia of IHC Hospice for their compassionate care.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2007, 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, 84101. Family and friends may call at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, Monday, October 1, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
