FITCHBURG - John K. Cheeseman Sr., 77, of 84 Nashua St. died Friday in his home after an illness.
His wife, Dorothy M. (Bushway) Cheeseman, died in 1982. He leaves a son, John K. Cheeseman Jr. of Hinesburg, Vt.; six daughters, Joyce E. Porter of Wayne, N.J., Barbara A. Fournier, Shirley A. Chastain and Gloria Hobbs, all of Fitchburg, Marylin S. Ordway of West Townsend, and Theresa E. Doucette of Salem, Va.; a brother, James D. Cheeseman of Burlington, Vt.; three sisters, Ilene Proulx of Essex Junction, Vt., Ethel Schaffer of Hartford, Conn., and Marion Bushway of Burlington, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. He was born in Rouses Point, N.Y., son of Silas and Jenney (Rochester) Cheeseman, and lived many years in northwestern Vermont. He lived here 40 years.
Mr. Cheeseman was a farmer for many years in Vermont. He was later manager of the former Lavigne's Farm in Lunenburg for many years. After that, he was a truck driver for Concord Construction Co., retiring in 1974.
Mr. Cheeseman was a member of St. Bernard's Church.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Water St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made instead to Hospice Providers, care of Diversified Home Services, 15 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, 01420.
