After some years of failing health, William Palmer passed to his rest Friday morning, Dec. 26th. He was born near Schuyler Lake, Jan 1, 1841, and was left an orphan when very young together with one sister who was separated from him then and whom he has never seen since. When the Civil War broke out he enlisted, served his term and after he was mustered out of service returned to Springfield and married Miss Hannah VanBuren who has been dead for several years. Three children survive, Mrs Fred Hart, who has cared for his declining years, Mrs Dayton Armstrong of VanHornesville, and Arthur Palmer of Burlington. Another daughter, Mrs George Wright died before the mother. The funeral was held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, the Rev. T.G. Cook officiating and burial was made in our cemetery.
