Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on November 3, 1862 and was promoted to Captain on February 6, 1863. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 2, 1863. Returned to duty March 1, 1864. Hospitalized in Richmond, Virginia on May 15, 1864 with a gunshot wound to the left elbow. Returned to duty prior to November 1, 1864. Captured near Petersburg, Virginia on March 25, 1865. Confined at Old Capital yankee prison, DC until transferred to Fort Delaware yankee prison, Delaware on March 30, 1865. Released from Fort Delaware on June 17, 1865.
