Carl Smith Allen, 68, a resident of Daphne and Fairhope, passed away on October 29, 2020 after a long illness and complications from COVID-19.

Carl was born on April 22, 1952 in Mobile, AL. He was the son of the late Francis H. Allen and Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Allen.

Carl graduated from W.P. Davidson High School in Mobile. He went on to graduate from the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL with a BA in fine arts. In his youth, Carl loved surfing and sailing. Later, he captained a yacht in the Caribbean for some time and lived on his sailboat in the Florida Keys and Orange Beach. Carl was kind and gentle, loved working with his hands, and developed a reputation for his artistry in woodworking. He was a master craftsman and an avid woodworker who also enjoyed glass art. He was loved by all.

Carl Allen is survived by the love of his life of 30 years, Leicia Fairchild Allen; her mother, Jean Fairchild Cunningham (Jim) of Tuscaloosa, AL and family; his brother, Robert H. Allen (Sherry P. Allen); nephew, Austin S. Allen; niece, Mary Elizabeth Allen Weber; aunt, Carol Smith Sinclair; step-mother, Margie Whiteside Allen and her children and family. Carl and Leicia enjoyed traveling to private islands. Mr. Allen was also a devoted and loving father to their two Malti-poos, Doc and Sophie, who preceded him in death. Services will be announced at a later date.
