Editha Pauline Brashear, 102 of rural Knoxville, passed away at 10:04 a.m. Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the home of her granddaughter, Bobbi (and Rick) Helander, with whom she had resided with the past eight months.

She was born March 15, 1917 in Abingdon, the daughter of Thomas and Julia Baker. She married P. Eugene Brashear on January 28, 1939 at her home in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lari Jean Ratliff, her parents, two sisters, Wilamene Ryan and Clarene Weller, and two brothers, Ogdon Eugene Baker and Harold Holister Baker.

Editha is survived by her granddaughter, Bobbi (and Rick) Helander of rural Knoxville; her grandson, Patrick Pierce of Abingdon; two great-grandchildren, Tiffani Garcia and Marco Garcia; four great-great-grandchildren, Gavin Christopher Hasley, Tomas Antonio Garcia, Juliana Sierra Guerrero and Layla Sophia Garcia; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1935. She then went to Morris Beauty School of Cosmetology in Galesburg. She worked as a beautician for 40 years and owned and operated the Charm Center Beauty Shop in Abingdon. She also sold real estate for 12 years for Healey Realty in Galesburg. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church and in her later years, she attended services at Maxey Chapel. She was a member of the Abingdon High School Half Century Alumni.

After retiring, she moved to Mission, Texas for 20 years, where she enjoyed the climate and the people. She loved music and dancing, sewing, stained glass art, oil painting and china painting.

Cremation will be accorded. Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Jordan Knight, Chaplain of Hospice Compassus, will officiate.
