Mary Ware (Goodrich) Scrimshaw, anthropologist, age 94, of Thornton, died peacefully at home surrounded by family members on June 18, 2014.
She began her graduate career in genetics at the University of Rochester, working with the renowned Curt Stern, and transitioned to anthropology after 12 years in Guatemala with her husband. After graduate work at Brandeis University, she worked extensively in nutritional anthropology, and was one of the founders of that field.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, Dr. Nevin Stewart Scrimshaw. She was survived by her 3 children, 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Mary's gentle loving nature and her great wisdom will be missed by all who knew her.
