Ernest Heinrich Hertwich Neben

June 30, 1903 - June 18, 1948

TRACTOR UPSETS AND TAKES LIFE OF ERNEST NEBEN

Ernest Neben, farmer of the Buffalo community, lost his life early Friday morning when a tractor which he was using in the field upset upon him. He had left his house about 7:30 in the morning to go to work and no one knows exactly what time the accident happened.

A neighbor, Emil Struempler, went to the Neben home, and when he saw the wheels of the Neben tractor in the air he went to summon help.

Accompanied by Herman Neben and son the three men went back to the scene of the accident. After considerable difficulty the machine was moved and the body of Mr. Neben was freed. A doctor was called, and it is reported he indicated Mr. Neben had probably suffered the accident shortly after he left the house. The tractor had reared over backwards as Mr. Neben was going up a hill, and he was caught by the machine as it fell and was unable to get away.

Ernest Neben was born on June 30, 1903 in Germany to Heinrich Christoph Herman and Maria Louise (Drewes) Neben.

Mr. Neben died on June 18, 1948 on the family farm in Buffalo, Nebraska leaving his wife, Elizabeth Neben, and five children; Lester (Les), Roberta (Birdie), Gertrude (Gert), John (Johnny), and Linda, the oldest being a freshman in high school.

Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Newman Chapel with additional services at 4:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo. Burial well be at the Buffalo First Lutheran Cemetery.
