Nell Bailey Mize, 89, of Hughes Home in Fredericksburg died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Mary Washington Hospital.

She was a charter member of Spotswood Baptist Church, where she was the first choir director, a Sunday school teacher and served in many other roles. Mrs. Mize had been a member and officer of the Spotsylvania Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Edd Morris Mize, and a granddaughter, Wanda K. Hardee. She also was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers, all of Georgia.

She is survived by her daughter and devoted caregiver, Mamie M. Andrews of Mechanicsville; her daughter A. Jean Wilcox of the Lakeside area of Richmond; one sister, Agnes Hughes and her husband, Jack, of Hiram, Ga.; one brother, Charles L. Bailey and his wife, Mary, of Hiram; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Jim Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and one hour prior to the service time Saturday.
