Betty Jo Orders cherished simplicity in life. One of five daughters of Bertha Lee Fleming and Edward Jerome Houck, she grew up with a deep love for her family and a desire to do anything she tried to do well. She was married to Harry Orders and had two sons, Harry Lee and Charles Alan.

Betty Jo grew up in Morganton but after marriage made her home in Glen Alpine. She was active in the First Baptist Church as an Intermediate Sunday School teacher and worked in food service at the North Carolina School for the Deaf.

She was preceded in death by her only brother William, and her sisters Lena, Myrtle,Mary Lee, and Ruth.
