Dr. Edwin J. Kragt was born April 20, 1932 in Little Rock, Iowa. He was the son of John and Anna Kragt.

Edwin attend primary schools in Northwest Iowa, graduating young at 16 years of age. He attended Central College in Pella, IA and completed his education credentials. He taught K-12 grades in a one room schoolhouse in Northwest Iowa.

Ed met his wife Mina Van Holland in Rock Valley, Iowa. Ed and Mina were married June 10, 1953. They were married 54 years until Mina’s passing in December 2007. While married he served in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Germany.

After his military service Ed attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, IA. He initiated his Chiropractic practice in Rock Rapids, IA and had a rewarding and successful business until his retirement 37 years later (1995).

During his business career he was an influencer and actively participated in Kiwanis, Rock Rapids Development Corporation, Iowa Chiropractic Society, The American Chiropractic Association, and Iowa Chiropractic Orthopedic Society. He was involved with the development of Lake Pahoja recreation area, VFW, and the American Legion. Ed enjoyed fishing at Okoboji, the Rock River and coaching Little League.

Ed was a member of the Rock Rapids First Reformed church for many years before moving to Spirit Lake, at which time, he became a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed the men’s group, Methodist Mafia.

Ed loved to travel the country and met his goal of visiting all 50 states. He and Mina traveled to several parts of the world including Germany, Holland, and the Holy Land.

While widowed, Ed met Betty Kipfer while camping in Spirit Lake. They were married Sept. 2014 and they made their home in Spirit Lake, IA.

Ed is survived by 3 children Cheryl Sandholm, Sandy Hammond (Earl), Jon Kragt (wife Pam); 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brothers Preston, Joel, John (wife Pam); sister-in-laws Elaine Vreeman, Darlene Van holland, Tom and Marlene Van Holland and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by parents John and Anna (Brower) Kragt; wife Mina (Van Holland) Kragt, brother Harvey Kragt, sisters-in-law Karen Kragt, Mary Lee Kragt, nephew Allen and 2nd wife Betty Kipfer.
