She married her elementary school crush, Rollie Cullen Curvey, on November 7, 1946. They moved from East Texas to Houston's Third Ward. They later moved to North Houston's Trinity Gardens where they built the Curvey home and family. This union was blessed with three children, Rollie Curvey , Jr., Jacqueline Baldwin, and Gerald Curvey.
Baby Ruth was a Christian and a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, along with her husband. She served as an usher and her favorite time of the year was Family Day.
She attended Franklin Beauty School and received her cosmetology license. She was instrumental in helping to start the first head Start in the community. She earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from Texas Southern University and teacher certification . She taught for North Forest I.S.D. and Houston I.S.D.
It was not all work at the Curvey home. Baby Ruth really loved to shop and travel. She believed, lived and gained her strength to endure from God.
Baby Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; one son Rollie Curvey, Jr.; one grandson Lloyd Baldwin; three brothers, Joe McElroy, Robert McElroy, and William McElroy; three sisters, Florence Marie Dynes, Alvarice Hall, and Jo Evelyn Gilder-Hulett.
She leaves to cherish her memories two children; one sister; six grandchildren; sixteen-great-grandchildren ; one great-great grandchild; and a host of relatives and friends.
