Mr. John W. Kays, Sr. age 95, Shelbyville, died Monday February 6, 1995 at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville. Born in Washington County September 2, 1899, he was the son of the late Squire Allie Kays and Nannie Lou Stratton Kays. He was a carpenter, a member of Shelbyville First Baptist Church, Howard Lodge #15 Odd Fellows. Survivors include: five daughters, Mary Elizabeth Cavnar, Denver, CO, Dorothy Hanna and Peggy Kays, Shelbyville, Norma Barnett, Harrodsburg, Barbara Coleman, Winchester; three sons, Allie Kays, Shelbyville, Dr. Herbert Kays, Louisville, Donnie Kays, Prospect; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Other survivors include two brothers, O. T. Kays, Marvin Kays, and two sisters, Audie Belle Burton and Nellie Hearn, all of Frankfort. Funeral services for Mr. Kays will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., February 11 at the Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with burial in Grove Hill Cemetery.
