Rufus George Thannisch was born in Comanche County, Texas in 1898, the fifth son of William "Bill" and Ada Thannisch. They worked on farms and ranches for several years before trying homesteading in New Mexico around Fort Sumner.
The Thannisch family moved to Dickens County around 1909-1910. They settled in the Wichita community on the Murchison place.
"Rufe" Thannisch married Dessie Faye Dismuke in Levelland, Texas in 1924. They lived in the Wichita community where they were farmers and ranchers. They had two sons born there, Glendale Dwain in 1925 and Marvin Warren in 1929. Like almost everyone in the early 1930's were hard times for them. The drought and dust storms got so hard on "Rufe's" health that he decided to move. He looked around New Mexico and Arkansas. In 1939 he moved to Harrison, Arkansas where he had a cattle farm. He and Faye had a daughter, Bonnie Ann, born in Harrison.
Faye died in 1952. Rufe died in 1979. They are buried at White Church cemetery in Boone County, Arkansas.
