Donald F. Christianson, 91, Galesburg, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

He was born July 15, 1916, in East Galesburg, the son of Nels and Hannah (Johanson) Christianson.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, and his four children whose mother, Dorothy, passed away in 1960. The children include: his oldest son, C. Brian; his daughters, Angelique Christianson and Josie Maes and her daughter, Dominque, his wife Jean Blair of Iowa City, Iowa; his son, David and his wife, Patty of Wataga; daughter, Sally (Bob) Mangoff of Granite City; and his youngest son, Mark (Barbara) Johnson; and Mark (Sheila) Lamb, Galesburg.

After working as farm hand for a year, he joined the CCC which he considered to be a most valuable experience. He next worked for the CB&Q Railroad, the Knox Laundry and later the U.S. Post Office. He then operated Leighton's Sundries in Galesburg until 1996.

During World War II, he was stationed initially in the Philippines in Manila and then in Melbourne, Australia. Promoted to technical sergeant, he served as a cartographer for the Pacific Theater in the 648th Engineer Battalion.

He was a member of many organization, including Masonic Lodge, American Legion, El Bon Shrine Parade Unit and VFW. With his wife, Darlene, he was active in organizing and participating in his army reunions. He also was a Boy Scout Leader and a charter member of the East Galesburg Rod and Gun Club.

He and Darlene enjoyed traveling and visited Sweden, the country of his heritage, five times and returned to Australia in 1991 to visit family and army buddies.

He will be remembered as someone who loved the river and the outdoors. He spent many days at his cabin on the Mississippi which he had for nearly 30 years. He loved dancing, all things Swedish and his family. He was also an excellent gardener, an avid bowler and golfer.

Cremation was accorded.
