Fern "Fernie" Johnson, 82, of Warsaw, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.
She was born July 14, 1925, in Deepwater, the youngest of five children born to Benjamin Harrison and Rosa Thompson Romesburg. On Oct. 27, 1945, she was married to Russell H. Johnson, who died in 2001.
She grew up in Wheatland. She spent her entire married life living on the same farm north of Warsaw. She was a hard working farm wife. She had spent several years cooking for hay hands at harvest time. She enjoyed cooking. She grew a big garden and loved her flowers. Her greatest love was making music. Over the years, she had shared her music with numerous churches in the area, nursing homes and senior citizen's centers. She enjoyed making music with her fellow musicians who referred to her as the "Benton County Songbird" At a young age, she became a believer of God and attended Mount Pleasant Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen Dixon, and her husband, Denver, of Cole Camp; a sister, Opal West, of Wheatland; six grandsons, Russell Johnson, of Warsaw, Ralph Johnson, of Lincoln, Travis Dixon of Windsor, Troy, Trenton and Treavor Dixon, all of Cole Camp; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four sons, Dwight, Darrell, Danny and Dwaine Johnson; two brothers, Ernest and Earl Romesburg; and a sister, Rena Pine.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Art Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, near Warsaw. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be left online at www.davis-miller.com.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Mt. Pleasant Church Building Fund or the Sunday School Fund, in care of the funeral chapel.
