How hard it is to give up our friends and still we are constantly called upon to sever these ties. When the writer came to the Mullins circuit, nearly four years ago, dear Uncle John E. Perritt was among the many who gave him a hearty welcome and assured him of his support in every way possible for the upbuilding of every interest of the charge. In this promise of help he was faithful and true. One can realize in a measure how bad it was for us to give him up and to loose his wise counsel. But he is no more.
Born January 25, 1831, and died September 7, 1913. For nearly 83 years he lived and his life was a useful one in community, State, and church. He was one of the many who went forth in defense of the Southern cause. No braver or truer soldier ever fought for his country than he.
In his community and Church he was a leading spirit. Joining the M.E. Church, South, early in life, he lived a consistent life to the end. He was twice married, first to Miss Nancy Ann Campbell, December 31, 1856. She died November 10, 1879. From this union ten children were born, seven of whom still live. He was married the second time to Miss Margaret Carmichael who survives him.
Born, lived, and died in his native county - Marion. His body was laid to rest in the semetery at Marion on September 8, 1913, after service conducted by his pastor. Gone from among us but we know where to find him for he has gone to be with the Saviour.
