CSA Soldier's Pension Claim states he enlisted at Bainbridge, GA on the 2 Mar 1862 in Company K, 2nd Georgia Cavalry and was discharged at Charlotte, NC on 4 May 1865. He was never captured, imprisoned, exchanged or paroled. Application dated 28 Sep 1909 and address was Butler, Jackson Co., FL.

John enlisted March 10, 1862 in the Confederate States Army, and served for the duration of the war. He was enlisted by Capt. Lawton and assigned to Camp Ector April 16, 1862, Capt. Dunlop's Co., Decatur Cavalry, Georgia Volunteers which subsequently became Company K, 2nd Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. One of his jobs was to herd cattle for the Brigade
