CRANSTON R. 'RIP' COLEMAN, 79, of Memphis, retired Army major, died of heart failure Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Canale Funeral Directors has charge. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, was a former member and manager of the Memphis Gun Club, and past president, vice president and treasurer of Memphis Amateur Retriever Club. He also worked with the Board of Education and Goldsmith's after his retirement from the military. Mr. Coleman, the husband of Anna Laura Smith Coleman, also leaves a daughter, Jennifer C. Treadwell of Germantown; two sons, Cranston R. Coleman Jr. of Niceville, Fla., and Michael L. Coleman of Belleville, Ill., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Mary's Episcopal School Scholarship Fund or St. George's Episcopal Church. (Published in The Commercial Appeal on January 30, 1997)
