Charlie was born in Egger, Polk, Arkansas. Charlie and Bessie Wood Southern were married 16 Nov 1913 in Mena, Polk, Arkansa. They later moved to Kinta, Haskell, Oklahoma.
Charlie's children at his passing were Gladys V McCray, Ernestine Van Deventer, Sam Southern Thelma Lee McCray, Billy Ray Southen and Patsy Ruth Hickson. 4 children preceded him in death they were Roy, Bernice, Troy and James "Jimmy" Franklin Southern
Charlie was a cotton farmer, who lived north of the town of Skedee, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
He could whistle a fine tune and you could hear him early in the morning as he would be hoeing his cotton.
He picked cotton two rows at a time and would be whistling all the while.
Charlie was the youngest of 10 children,
