Thomas James Church died on Friday, December 27, 2013. He was born on July 24, 1944 in Rome, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Potter Church and Charles Kenneth Church. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan Hammond Church and two sisters, Mary Jane (Ed) Wilson of Seneca Falls, NY and Cyndy (Ed) Haley of Rome, NY, He graduated from Indiana Tech University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After working as a field engineer on submarines for General Electric, Tom moved to Belvidere in 1981 and never left his "little piece of paradise." An artisan of talent and originality, Tom started woodworking when he and Susan built a pole house in Aberdeen, Washington. He became a full time turner and furniture maker after his retirement from Sverdrup. Tom's friends and family will remember him as a great and generous soul with a keen, inquiring intellect. No problem was too large of small for him to tackle. He was an explorer of all things, and places, and loved any excuse for a "road trip." He lived a full life. Services were conducted by the Rev. Tom McFie at the United Church of Christ in Belvidere on Owl Hollow Rd. at 1:00 PM on December 30th.
