2nd Lieutenant Ralph Ivan Coryell was an observer (bombardier) in the 96th Aero Squadron during WWI. This Squadron was the first in the United Air Service to have bombardment as its sole mission. The Squadron was based at Amanty, France. Coryell was assigned to the Squadron on June 14, 1918, and flew on numerous bombing missions in a Breguet 14 bomber. Coryell transferred from the Squadron on November 2, 1918, shortly before the Armistice.
