HUNTSVILLE -- Joe T. Boatright, 88, of Huntsville died Sept. 22, 2007, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born July 2, 1919, in Huntsville to W.A. and Lela Vista Montgomery Boatright.
He was a retired farmer, meat-cutter and grocer. He was named associate of the year in 2004 at the Harp's Food Store in Huntsville at age 85. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist and had served on the Huntsville City Council for 58 years, which made him the longest serving alderman in the history of the United States. He was a member of Huntsville Lodge 365, F&AM for 61 years, the Hayes-Smith Post 137 American Legion Post 10021, Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Huntsville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lisha Zoleta Ledbetter Boatright, on Feb. 26, 1993.
Survivors include one son, Bill Boatright of Huntsville; two sisters, Betty Hunt of San Diego and Bertie Fulkerson of Tulsa, Okla.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville with the Rev. Butch Bolinger officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by Huntsville Lodge 364.
Burial will be in Alabam Cemetery with military honors by the Air Force.
Pallbearers will be members of Huntsville Lodge 364.
