Roy D. May Sr., 84, Knoxville, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Galesburg, the son of Dale Roy and Margaret Windom May Sr. He married Charlotte J. Brackett on Dec., 12, 1959, in Rock Island. She survives of Knoxville.
Also surviving are his children, Michael J. (Lucy) May of Saint Pedro, Calif., Mary (Jack) Underwood of Baytown, Texas, Roy Dale May Jr. of Houston, Joy (Rich) Morris of Milan, and Robin Lamb of Galesburg; one sister, Shirley Walker of Waterloo, Iowa; and one brother, Dale Roy (Dee) May Jr. of Galesburg.
His parents; one daughter, Christine Jacobs May; one son, Dale Roy May III; and one brother, Donald, preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for the former Maytag of Galesburg, as a forklift driver for more than 38 years. He also worked part-time for the city of Knoxville as a policeman from 1977 until 1994, and then was a member of the Knoxville Police Auxiliary until he retired.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
