James built an impressive two story plantation with 18 in. thick walls with bricks made on the place close to the NG Cemetery. Behind the house was the kitchen, slave quarters, stables, barns and a cotton ginhouse to complete the self-sufficient plantation. In later years, the house was used as a hospital during the Civil War.
