Laughing and chatting with the members of the family, apparently enjoying all the health and vigor of youth at one moment and at the nest stretched cold and stiff in death, were the sad circumstances surrounding the death of Miss Matilda Elizabeth Funk, the beautiful 22-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Funk, residing ten miles northeast of the city in Bennington township. Miss Funk had spent the afternoon and evening in Waterloo visiting her grandfather, Christopher Schenk, in this city, apparently in the best of health.
