Gertye M. Prikryl of Taylor went to join her husband and daughter in glory on January 3, 2006. She lived most of her life of 86 years in Bartlett, Texas. Visitation will be 6-8 PM, with Rosary at 7 PM, Friday, January 6th at Providence Funeral Home Chapel.

Celebration of Life Mass will be 10 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2006 at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with Father Joseph Nisari officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger.

Gertye was born to Albert and Augustina (Cervenka) Pekar on August 5, 1919 on the family farm in Granger, Texas. On August 17, 1942, she married Ignatius R. (Ike) Prikryl at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, Texas. During the early school years of her children, she was a member of the SS. Cyril & Methodius Mother's Club. She was a lifelong member of St. Helen KJZT Society No. 18 and the Catholic Workman. She was for years a devoted and faithful employee of the United States Department of Agriculture-Agriculture and Stabilization Service. Throughout her life, she was a faithful servant of the Lord. For years, she was known as the cake lady at many functions of the SS. Cyril and Methodius Church. She was a fabulous cook and a master chef of cakes, pies and candies. Her energy was limitless and she utilized such energy to assist her husband for 56 years and instilled the contagious energy into her children. An avid gardener, she always had extra vegetables and food to share with her friends and neighbors.

Survivors include a son, Latius R. Prikryl of Austin; a devoted son-in-law, David L. Naivar of Taylor; grandchildren, Craig W. Naivar and wife, Michell Naivar of San Marcos; Robert J. Prikryl of Austin; Lauren Rae Prikryl of Austin; one great granddaughter, Jordan Ashleigh Naivar of San Marcos; a brother, Theodore Pekar of Granger; sisters-in-law, Roselee Prikryl and Agnes Prikryl of Taylor.

She was preceded in death by, her husband, Ike; her daughter, Devonna Raye Prikryl Naivar; her parents; a brother, Rev. Msgr. Gilbert F. Pekar; and a sister, Bernice Pekar Kovar.
