Catherine Eliza (Moone), Smith, Shaheen, Travis, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct 17, 2021 in Henderson, Nevada. She was the daughter of Clay Stahlman Moone and Ida Rebecca Hanner. She was born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania Aug 25, 1925.
She was a great homemaker, cook, and gardener. Her grandmother Moone taught her about herbs, plants, etc. and was known as "Doc Moone" for her natural healing remedies. That inspired her to become a nurse. After graduating high school she began her career as a Registered Nurse.

She married Edgar Hammond Smith Aug 11th 1947. They settled in his home town of New Florence, PA and began raising their children. She continued nursing, but became a stay-at-home mother by the time their fourth child was born.
In December of 1959 they moved across country to the San Fernando Valley in Reseda, California. Catherine went back into nursing. She worked for many years at Canoga Park Hospital, eventually becoming the Director of Nurses. After sixteen years of marriage, she and Edgar divorced. Her nickname had been "Kay, but after that she changed it to "Cathy".
She married Samuel Joseph Shaheen in 1965. They moved to Woodland Hills and later divorced in 1974. Afterwards, she moved to Newport Beach, CA. It was her favorite place. She loved the fresh ocean breezes.
She worked at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach for many years until her retirement and marriage to her 3rd husband, Walter Lawrence Travis. They loved to travel and they visited Europe, Australia, and Hawaii to name a few places. Catherine took up painting as a hobby. Her ocean paintings are beautiful. She exhibited and sold her works in several shows. She & Walt eventually moved further south and settled in Hidden Hills in Escondido, CA. where Walter died in 1992. Catherine later moved to be near family first to Washington, then to Elk Grove, CA and then to Henderson, NV.
Catherine was very proud that several of her granddaughters also went into the field of nursing.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter; first husband, Edgar H. Smith, brother, Clay Charles Moone; sister Dorothy Hawkins; half-sister Bonnie Lee (Kavals) Maund; and son Daniel Edgar Smith.
Catherine is survived by her children, daughters Linda C. (Smith) Acrey; and Virginia E. Nerlove (Edward); son Donald Wayne Smith; daughter-in-law Micheline Smith; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
