Obituary
Died at her home in Doniphan, Nebraska, June 23, 1903, Mrs. Elizabeth Scudder, aged 79 years, 6 months and 7 days. Mrs. Scudder was born in Union county, Indiana, Dec. 16, 1823 (sic). On Nov. 20, 1840 she was married to Joseph S. Scudder of Ohio, who was drowned in the Ohio river May 4, 1864 while in discharge of his duty as a soldier in the civil war. Nine children were born to this union of whom four have passed on before. On the remaining five, Mr. B. F. and A. L. are residents and prominent business men of Doniphan, Jas. H. is a resident of Washington, Levi L. and Wm. L. of Indiana. In 1887 she moved to this state and has since resided here. Six years ago she met with an accident rendering her partially helpless. And during these years she has been tenderly and lovingly cared for by her sons and their wives.

Her life has been one of testing, and in all things she has proved herself to be the faithful wife, mother and friend. In 1888 she united with the Congregational church by letter from the United Brethren and has lived a faithful consistent christian life. On Tuesday evening June 23 the end came, and peacefully she passed on to be with her Lord. The funeral was held from the Congregational church on Thursday. All the business houses closing during that hour. Services conducted by her pastor Rev. W. A. Alcorn...

"In Town and Township - Doniphan"

Mrs. Elizabeth Scudder died at her home in this town Tuesday night June 23, aged 80 years. She came with her sons to Doniphan in 1887, her husband having lost his life in discharging his duties as a soldier in the Civil War. She united with the Congregational church fifteen years ago. For the past six years she had been an invalid but bore her suffering meekly. She was the mother of nine children, five sons surviving her. Two sons, B.F. and A. L. reside here, James at Colville and the remaining two in Indiana. The funeral took place from the Congregational church Thursday June 25, Rev. Alcom delivering the address in which he spoke of her kind christian character and her patience in all her sufferings. The floral tributes told of the high esteem she was held by her many friends. The remains were interred in the Doniphan cemetery.
