Mrs. Boyum, 62, of Peterson, died Monday (Sept. 17, 2007), following a lengthy illness with cancer.
Alice Mae Bakkum was born May 22, 1945, in Preston. She was raised on a farm in rural Rushford and graduated from Rushford High School in 1963. On May 17, 1969, she married Roger Boyum. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Peterson. She worked several jobs through the years, many of them in housekeeping. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for more than 20 years. She was also a Luther League advisor for many years and a member of the Class of '63 Club. She enjoyed family and friends, bike rides, convertible rides, collecting angels, baking and decorating cakes and baking strull at Christmas time. She also spent several years caring for her mother and late brother, Gordon.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rick (Kim Haagenson) of Chatfield and Scott (Lora) of Stewartville; two granddaughters; three stepgrandsons; her mother, Gertie Bakkum of Rushford; a sister, Marie (Glen) Ingalls of Rochester; and a brother, Kenneth (Catherine) Bakkum of Rushford.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred; and two brothers, Arthur and Gordon Bakkum.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Rushford Chapel, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
