Cora Virginia Simpson was the daughter of Zacariah (Zachariah) "Zach" & Syndia Ann (in some records as Sena or Cyntha) Simpson. She was born in what was then Princess Anne County, Virginia (now city of Virginia Beach). She was married twice. She was married first to William H. Waterman in about 1895-1896 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. She was married second to Edgar Corprew Land on April 15, 1904 in Princess Anne County, Virginia.

Princess Anne County, Virginia marriage records show the following -
"Married April 15, 1904 - Edgar C. Land, single, and Cora V. Waterman, widow - Edgar C. Land, age 27, born in and residing in Princess Anne County, Virginia, occupation Farmer, son of Peter Land and his wife, Mahala - Cora V. Waterman, age 23, born in and residing in Princess Anne County, Virginia, daughter of Zachariah Simpson"
